School Governors

Since September 2011 Downham has been part of a Federation of three Schools: Downham, Tor Bridge Primary School and Plym Bridge Nursery and Children’s Centre. This is in preparation for the move to the Tor Bridge site in the summer of 2012.

The Federation is, along with Tor Bridge High, part of the Tor Bridge Partnership. The three school federation of Governors and the Academy Governors from Tor Bridge High make up the Partnership and it is this strategic body which will influence the ethos and development of Tor Bridge.

In the Partnership there are 21 Governors who work to ensure that every pupil in all of the four schools have their needs met and have access to all areas of the curriculum.

The Tor Bridge Partnership is responsible for the general oversight of the school and involved in, amongst other things, the curriculum, finance, health and safety, appointment of staff and the maintenance of building and grounds. They meet three times a year when they receive a report on school life from the headteacher and members of the group will visit the school regularly.

The day to day Governance of Downham is from the Downham Committee which consists of five Governors from the Partnership and associate members who are staff and parents of the school. This committee meets six times each year with a specific focus on Downham School.
